Part 1: Getting Started
There are lots of reasons NOT to organize some kind of commemoration. There will be time constraints. There will be students who don't appreciate the work. There will be colleagues who will roll their eyes when you ask for help. There will be administrators who will wish you well but warn you there is no money in the budget. Regardless the obstacles, organize the commemoration. These types of activities will energize and refresh you. For every one unappreciative student there will be a dozen silent ones. For every successful activity, you will reawaken some enthusiasm in even the most jaded colleague. And building support and a school tradition is a way to slowly but surely open the school budget. Get a team of teachers and students and make it happen.
Part 2: Funding
Teachers and school leaders are always working within limited budgets. If you are organizing an event and are looking for funds don't be shy and talk to people - you never know what kind of funding or support might be available.
